O repertório a executar centrar-se-á na abordagem de tipologias sinfónicas por três importantes compositores cuja carreira se desenrolou no espaço austro-húngaro. Enquanto que Beethoven e Schubert desenvolveram a sua carreira na capital do império, Dvorák centrou a sua actividade no território actualmente designado por República Checa, tendo sido um importante codificador de um tipo específico de nacionalismo musical.

Highlights in the life of the
Chamber Orchestra of Europe

In 1986 Deutsche Grammophon's recording of Rossini's comic opera 'Viaggio à Reims' conducted by Claudio Abbado wins the Orchestra's first Gramophone 'Record of the Year' award.
The COE is presented with its second Gramophone 'Record of the Year' award in 1988 for Deutsche Grammophon's Schubert symphony cycle conducted by Claudio Abbado.
Five top European prizes are awarded in 1989 for Deutsche Grammophon's recording of Schubert's opera Fierrabras, with the COE again conducted by Claudio Abbado.
1991 sees the International Mozart Festival commemorating the 200th anniversary of the death of the composer launched with COE concerts throughout Europe conducted by Sir Georg Solti.
With Nikolaus Harnoncourt the COE is chosen to perform Mozart's last three symphonies in Vienna on the anniversary of his death.
A six-part series on the Chamber Orchestra of Europe is broadcast on UK television.

A Financial Times review declares 'The COE deserves to be renamed 'The Best Orchestra in Europe'.
