-------
Two dancers’ bodies and a violinist enclosed in a space designed by the visual artist Michel François. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Boris Charmatz seek to reinvent their dance in the instant: in between the labyrinthine lines of the living architecture of the music. ‘For me Bach is structure, but his transcending dimension is written in the flesh,’ says De Keersmaeker. The chords strike within their bodies, the counterpoint vibrates and comes to life, the current flows and the jig begins to whirl. Seemingly slipping a secret score under their feet, they outline everything that vibrates between the notes – the missed beats and the shadowy basses. Mixing meaningful layers and abstract lines, the dance is born with and alongside the music – always on the brink of the rhythm, skimming the edge of silence. This playing with the structure, toying with it or bending it, unfolds an inhabited solitude.
